“For us, and for our tragedy,
Here stooping to your clemency,
We beg your hearing patiently.”
- Hamlet, Act III, Scene ii -
Shakespeare wrote ten tragedies. Julius Caesar is sometimes classified as a History and it has been suggested by some that Romeo and Juliet is not true Aristotlean tragedy because the downfall of the protaganists is caused by accident rather than by flaws in their characters.
